Good Morning Fellow Republicans,
We had 30 or more attend our meeting last night at Trinity Baptist Church. It was a quick meeting, but with lots of information shared.
Among the items discussed was the need to find a Republican to run for the Oklahoma House District 7 seat since the incumbent Larry Glenn is not running again. This District includes Ottawa County and parts of Delaware County (Cowskin area). It is possible a Republican candidate from Miami may run. We will keep you advised.
John McArtor reminded everyone about the Lincoln/Reagan Dinner that is being held on Saturday, March 15, at the Grand Lake Event Center. Tickets are available at Picture Framing & More on Main Street. Get your tickets before they are sold out.
There is no County Convention this year, so no precinct meeting, but we have work to do. We need volunteers to work the precincts and we have precinct lists available for those interested. Let John know if you are willing to help in your area.
Two events scheduled for Saturday, February 15 are as follows:
First - The inaugural Growth & Opportunity Summit will be held in Tulsa and the theme is "Making Oklahoma the Place to Prosper." The one-day event features Travis Brown, author of How Money Walks, Steve Anderson, former budget director for Governor Sam Brownback, Jonathan Small, Vice President for policy at the Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs , and several of Oklahoma's federal and state elected officials, including Congressman Jim Bridenstine and Attorney General Scott Pruitt.
Go to http://oksafe.wordpress.com/2014/02/05/oklahoma-growth-summit-saturday-february-15-2014-tulsa/ for more information.
Second - The Republican Women of Ottawa County are meeting tomorrow at noon at the Courthouse Annex Building in Miami, Oklahoma. The speaker will be Tracey Montgomery and she will be speaking about Parental Rights. You need to be informed on your rights and what is happening to them. Make an effort to attend this event. It will be worth your time.
More events coming up:
February 17 (Monday)
Cyndi McArtor and several others will be heading to Oklahoma City for a "Hear the Bills" rally at the State Capitol. Senator John Ford, has refused to hear the seven (7) bills introduced against Common Core. Unless he releases them from his Committee, they will not get a hearing by the legislature. If you can attend this event, please let Cyndi know quickly. Several will be carpooling up and back TOMORRROW MORNING.
March 15 (Saturday)
The Lincoln/Reagan Day Dinner will be held at the Grand Lake Event Center (same as last year) and we will have a Western theme again. As you know, our speaker will be Pastor Rafael Cruz (Father of Ted Cruz, US Senator from Texas).
We think there will be great interest in hearing what Pastor Cruz has to say to us and are excited that he is available to come to Oklahoma for our event.
Tickets are $60.00 per person and ARE NOW AVAILABLE at Picture Framing & More located at 407 South Main Street, Suite A, Grove, OK 74344. Pam Sitton can be reached at her shop at the 918-787-6010. She is closed on Monday's, so stop by between regular business hours Tuesday through Saturday to get your tickets. Officers also have tickets, so feel free to connect with any of them as well.
Ticket sales are limited to 200, so don't delay in getting your tickets!
Your admission includes a chance to hear Pastor Cruz speak and dinner which will consist of barbecue and catfish, with all the sides, dessert and a drink ticket.
Remember, this is our big fundraiser of the year. We don't charge dues to belong to our GOP group, so we need to keep funds in our Treasury, and this is a great way to contribute to our conservative outreach.
Here is a short summary about Pastor Cruz and his son, Ted:
Pastor Rafael Cruz is the father of U.S. Senator from Texas, The Honorable Ted Cruz. Rafael Cruz was born in Cuba and immigrated to this country over 55 years ago to flee an oppressive communist regime. He fought in the revolution and was imprisoned and tortured. He fled to Texas penniless, not speaking a word of English.
Today Rafael Cruz is a pastor at a church in Dallas and serves as the Director of Purifying Fire Ministries ministering in the U.S., Mexico, and Central America. He is also a professor of Bible and Theology and the president of Kingdom Translation Services.
Pastor Cruz’s bold courage to flee Cuba to come to America thoroughly embodies the spirit of the American Dream. Who would have thought that a poor, but hard working immigrant could father a United States Senator?
Senator Ted Cruz was elected as the 34th U.S. Senator from Texas in 2012.
A passionate fighter for limited government, economic growth, and the Constitution, Cruz won a decisive victory in both the Republican primary and the general election.
Cruz’s election has been described by The Washington Post as "the biggest upset of 2012…a true grassroots victory against very long odds." In the Senate, he currently serves on the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation; the Committee on Armed Services; the Committee on the Judiciary; and the Special Committee on Aging.
Finally but not least - if you missed hearing KrisAnne Hall at last nights' Get America Back meeting, you missed the best thing since sliced bread. She is amazing. She lead us through (with no notes, no powerpoint) the history of the Constitution and the rights we have under it. It was a true history lesson and everyone there learned a tremendous amount about how our rights were derived over many centuries. You can go to her website at www.krisannehall.com to get more information. She has written several books for all ages and has podcasts available on her site as well.
